momoteapots!

of outdoor shoots, loysel's toy, shanghai renjia, and vainpot's private sale! (blogpost by Matt)
Monday, June 4, 2012 || 9:44 AM

be warned: this is gonna be a longggg post!

OUTDOOR SHOOT - LOYSEL'S TOY

we had our first outdoor shoot in 3 months on saturday - at loysel's toy and around the area! it was a really impromptu decision - lucky sipei could make it even though we informed her really last minute! we initially wanted to shoot outdoors first, but it started drizzling the moment we set up our outdoor portable changing tent, and so we had to pack everything up and move to a sheltered place. and that sheltered place was our next shooting location - loysel's toy!

it was my first time going there, even though serene has been there a couple of times with her colleagues, since it's pretty near to her workplace. we ordered a cup of hot coffee each (perfect for a rainy day), the muesli ($7), and the eggs benedict set ($12). i found it pretty affordable, and the food was quite okay - the coffee was the type i like (even though kopi-o less sugar is still top on my coffee-list) and the eggs benedict was comparable to most other brunch places! decided that it'd make a nice place to chill on a lazy sunday morning, or a weekday afternoon, to just sit around and slack, or edit photos on my laptop for mmtp. oh, and i like the place cos you can just park nearby for free. i know i sound damn super cheapo, but free parking always makes me very happy. yes, cheap thrill. yes, some simple things in life do make me really happy.

the muesli. photo taken by the talented serene!

serene, cute as ever haha.

VAINPOT'S PRIVATE SALE/GSS & HAJI LANE'S AWESOMENESS

vainpot had its private sale last wednesday night, and it was great. the turnout was good, and everyone was super friendly even though most people had to wait some time for the cashier. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE for your patience, love, kindness, and just loads of awesomeness.

anyway, the shop was cooling before our doors opened, but the place became an oven when it became full with people - we kept cursing the aircon! it was supposed to be at its lowest temperature and at full blast, but it almost felt like we did not turn on the aircons. thank goodness everyone braved through the heat with us and no one really complained - thank you once again peeps. i was sweating like a pig (not sure if pigs do sweat this way, but you get what i mean), and i heard from serene that her friends who turned up that day smsed her to ask her to come over from work quickly cos i looked like i was dying from the heat/busy-ness. haha, i was actually quite fine, even though it was a little overwhelming at the cashier with tricia. and yes, i just sweat quite a bit and quite easily (ooooh, maybe that's how i lose weight, since i don't really exercise! thank god for my sweat glands, then.).

also, i feel like i should say a little about our lovely salesgirls - Yvonne and Vivian - who have been great help! they worked really hard for the sale and we all had a good time preparing for the sale together. really glad that we have such a great team at vainpot, and all of us are really doing our best for the boutique :D and you might have realised, they are probably the most friendly and helpful salesgirls along Haji Lane - and we are super proud of that. so, thank you yvonne and vivian for being such awesome staffs, and thank you tricia for being the most fabulous partner!

that's yvonne on the left and vivian on the right. oh, and tricia in the mirror.

anyway, i was just thinking about how haji lane has evolved over the years. haji lane used to be a dark place which was supposed to be "cool", full of graffiti on the walls, and people sitting along the lane smoking shisha (btw, smoking shisha is more harmful than smoking cigarettes! see this). but i like how it has evolved. it has became a place for everyone, i've gotta say! the "cool" people can still hang around their tattoo/streetwear shops (i'm being stereotypical just for simplicity sake, please dont fault me for it. and cool is in inverted commas cos i know everyone defines cool differently blahblahblah), and everyone else can just come by for a nice meal or to shop - there are so many shops here along haji lane now, definitely something for everyone! so, if you havent been to haji lane, its about time you drop by and check it out, and be sure to visit our boutique (42 Haji Lane). you will love our stuff and the super duper freaking good 25% storewide discount now.

SHANGHAI RENJIA

went to shanghai renjia with the law peeps for dinner last night! heard about it for the first time from jeremy and we all decided to go give it a try since it has awesome reviews online (most notably: ieatishootipost). and because it's apparently quite popular and they only have like, 7 tables, we decided to go really early. went there at 5.30pm only to find out that they open only at 6.30, and so we all sat down at a nearby coffeeshop for drinks! and when we went back at 6.10, there were already 3 families ahead of us in the queue! by the time the restaurant opened, all 7 tables were full and the boss had to tell the next person in line that the waiting time is 1h. that's insane, i feel, and i think this place is not worth waiting 1h for. so, the secret is to go at 6.10 or to play safe, 6.05pm!

anyway, before you decide to head there just cos it is a place with a queue, here's my reviews of some of their popular items:

xiao long bao - pretty good and comparable to most good places selling xlb! the skin doesn't break easily and the soup inside is pretty tasty. would have liked it more if the skin was thinner though, and it still can't beat imperial treasure's (where the BEST xlb in singapore can be found, to me). would give it 4/5.

sheng jian bao - pretty good and one of the better ones i have tasted. i know it probably won't be called sheng jian bao if it's cooked this way, but i would have liked it more if the entire bao was fried. the fried part was much yummier than the unfried part. oh, and the filling for this bao is quite little. would give it 3.5/5.

spring roll - i liked this cos the filling was hot and tasty. would order this again for sure if i ever return to the place. would give it 4/5.

anyway, we also tried a few other dishes (but i forgot to take photos, oops). the jiu jiang cai (yellow chives) omelette was really good, but the two noodles they had were quite sucky (it's not even average, or so-so, but i thought it was really not good. it tasted like something i can cook myself - but the thing is, i don't even know how to cook.) the noodles deserve a 1/5 rating.

Vainpot's GSS + Private Sale (by Matt)
Monday, May 28, 2012 || 11:15 PM

the past week has been crazzzyyyy. feel so drained from doing the work for mmtp and vainpot. have been replying emails and comments and packing parcels all week, then had a one-day ultra super duper exhausting sourcing trip with tricia, and saturday and sunday night were spent at vainpot preparing for the upcoming sale! MADNESS. oh, and my family was hosting our housewarming parties on both saturday and sunday as well.

anyway, i know/hope the vainpot's upcoming sale will be freaking awesome cos of the effort we have put in to prepare for the sale! and the discounts this time are damn good as well.
for our private sale on 30may, apart from the 25% storewide discount, our mailing listees and VP's facebook fans will also get to enjoy $10 off their purchases if the total bill exceeds $60! and from 31may to 29july, everyone will still enjoy the 25% storewide discount!

25% discount might not sound massive, but it makes all the clothes/shoes/bags we are selling AWESOME BARGAINS, cos our prices are low to begin with, as compared to most other shops along Haji Lane and retail shops in singapore in general!
say, you buy three $34.90 dresses. that will be ($34.90+$34.90+$34.90) x 75% - $10 = $68.50. that's like, $22.80 for each dress??!! AWESOME RIGHT?

oh, and we are not only putting the older designs on sale, we have imported 60 new designs (not including the different colours we may have for each design) specially for the sale, to be released only on 30 may 7pm onwards. and we will be topping up new designs every week and these new arrivals will also be on sale!

here are some of my favs among the new arrivals we imported:

seriously, you have to come for the sale at Vainpot! it'll be awesome and you'll be spoilt for choice! i'm so excited for it, can't wait for tmr! :D
see you guys there!

Nokia Lumia 610
Monday, May 21, 2012 || 4:23 AM

hello again. went for the Nokia event for the new Lumia 610 the other day at group therapy (a cafe) and it was good! they provided so much food and it was a nice cosy event!
anyway, as some people will know, i'm quite a loner, and so i was so super glad that yina also went for the event! stole this pic from her:

the first thing we did when we reached the place was go straight to the food. come to think about it, we must have looked really hungry/greedy :S we started eating quite a bit - the quiche and duck salad were really good - and by the time the event started we were full!  the thing is, after the nokia person introduced the new lumia 610, we were told by the organisers that it was time for dinner! yina and i were super shocked - we thought that the quiche and salads were our dinner already and we were so full by then! BUT of course, how could we miss out on good food right? i said to yina "see lar, told you don't eat so much just now already... just now was just starters and we ate so much already....", but a few seconds after saying that we went for our second meal in 1h, and had pasta, soup and blahblahblah. being cheapo meant that i had to try a bit of everything, including all the desserts - really eat until can puke. thinking back, i'm so thankful that my XS topman denim shirt didnt burst.

anyway, i feel like i should talk a little about the phone as it's really quite an awesome phone! who knows, i might be a good famous tech blogger in future, and people would come to my blog for good advice/reviews on phones, cameras and other gadgets. (still dreaming about being a famous blogger, you might have realised.)

one thing that struck me the most is how affordable the Lumia 610 is! for singtel users, it's just $48 with iOne Plus contract (the cheapest $25.68/month plan), and $0 with most other mobile subscription plans.  and the phone is just $379 without any plan! it's probably the cheapest smartphone in the market right now, and i would say it might just be the best deal! the phone is really user-friendly (almost dummy-proof) and it has everything that i would need in a phone (you could download all your apps just like iPhone) and it has a 5mp camera! to be extremely honest, i can't think of anything that i need/use currently (on my current iPhone 4S) that cannot be found/gotten with the lumia 610.
for more info: (i stole this from nokia's website)

i would give this phone a 9/10 taking into account everything! i think it would be perfect for anyone on a budget (esp young students who are getting their first phones - but then again, i notice that many young primary school kids are getting expensive phones like iPhones and the Samsung Galaxy phones these days.........kids these days........), or anyone who is getting a smartphone for the first time, or just anyone who loves a great deal!

joyful joyful: a preview
Saturday, December 3, 2011 || 8:46 AM

Haven't blogged for quite a bit because things have been absolutely kerazzzeeeh at work, and at MMTP, we've been really busy preparing for our end of year and CNY launches. It's a good thing to be busy I suppose! Anyhow, we've packed the year end with tons of MMTP manufactured goodies. This year we've opted to go minimal and simple with our designs, but with a hint of irresistable detail on each!

Take for example this plain peasant tank top with shoelace details running down the center, that cheers up the outfit. In four bright colours for a joyful christmas.

and my ultimate favourite from this collection - i loooove everything from the feminine 3/4 sleeves cut and teardrop keyhole front, to the egyptian embroidery faux collar detail, and the exciting contrast colours! This dress has a sweet charm about it <3 I kept tiffany for myself.

another classic skater dress design with contrast middle panel. Talk about subtle details! This one also has an exposed back zip, which we think are quite hot this season. And why I really love this piece? POCKETS. Kept coral! There's electric blue (please see actual launch for true colour), navy, black and green as well. Green is matched with a periwinkle blue middle, which was a pleasant surprise when I saw it cos' it was WY who chose the colours heh.

 Red's the colour of the season! Look out for this colour-exclusive piece with unique double sharp collars, which also resembles our previously sold-out TIMES SQUARE BLOUSE. It's of the same polyester cotton material, very comfortable!

 Safari trenchcoats are timeless designs. For summery Singapore, go for something sleeveless like this. Love how Sipei has pulled off this feminine yet feisty look.

Can't believe I'm still blogging at 2am when we are having the earliest shoot of our lives tomorrow. Think we gotta be up by 7am *gasp* I'm going to look like hell tomorrow ;( Anyway I'm beyond-words-excited about all our upcoming designs. The amount of new stocks, which are impatiently waiting for their launch, sometimes freaks me out but OMG they are so pretty!!! Watch this space for more previews of these pieces yeah?

Lastly, because I love this dress so much I'm going to spam photos of me in it :P I know, so camwhore.

autumn leaves.
Tuesday, August 9, 2011 || 6:47 AM

I probably used this name before, but the details on this piece really reminds me of fall and romance, and Autumn Leaves is one of my favourite songs :) So for those of you who asked about the colours, I think you'll be spoilt for choice! The green is more of a forest green, slightly darker in reality. I really love the indigo (very deep purple-navy) and rose as well. Forest and cream are selling fast at KissJane :D Launching on MMTP this week, look out for it okay!

Sunday, August 7, 2011 || 7:34 AM

i really just wanted to blog a preview of another upcoming manufactured MMTP label that we can't wait to launch! the other colours are really pretty too, and goes superbly well with the embroidery detail. and what's better, the mesh detail is duplicated at the back as well :))

gotta cut off my face cos' i've been looking quite terrible at work hahaha.

anyways, in case you haven't heard, Vainpot Boutique is looking for a part time salesgirl who can work at least 3 days a week. Please send your resume and availability to thevainpotboutique@gmail.com :) Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview. Do spread the word :D
